Homestyle Chicken Salan (just a basic chicken curry) with Split masoor dhal and a stack of rotis.

Perfect Fri food!

Playing it by ear..

This was from a few weeks ago! I’ve been very manic, packing things into storage & moving ourselves downstairs, whilst we have works done upstairs. Putting together some kind of meal for the family has been my goal…taking any photos of it has fallen far down my priorities list & often seems to drop out of my mind completely 😂.

This was trout fillets cooked in a romenesco type marinade, with asparagus spears and homemade Turkish bread. Light and simple, but so flavoursome.

So, please do forgive me in advance for my tardiness in engaging with my fellow foodie friends. For my followers, there may or may not be so many posts or recipe reels- I will when I can, which may depend on noise levels and my own sanity🤪.

I am sure “The Algorithm” will take a very dim view of my inconsistent IG appearance, but I’ll survive!

Does IG take a backseat when you have a project deadline, or do you somehow manage to always post?

Join us this Thursday 1st July, 10am BST, in making breakfast, where you’ll need:

A small ceramic bowl
A microwave (or a small saucepan)

Ingredients:
1/2 cup wholegrain rolled oats
1/3 chopped banana
1/4 cup frozen or fresh mixed berries (ie, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries)
Water

Extras:
1 x Tbls chai seeds
Liquid Tahini
Mixed seeds: sesame, sunflower, pumpkin.
Few prunes
Cinnamon
Coconut oil
Quality peanut or almond butter or bashed nuts of your choice

A big pot of chicken stock. Normally, I make bon

A big pot of chicken stock.

Normally, I make bone broth from leftover chicken/lamb/beef bones in my slow cooker.

I felt like having a lighter, but well flavoured stock/broth, with lots of pre and pro-biotics, nutrients and general goodness etc. Think it’s this cold and rainy (Midsummer!) weather 🤨.

In a large pot, I placed:
1 chicken
2 skin on brown onions, cut in half
1 bulb of garlic, halved across its middle
2 large carrots, peeled & cut in chunks
1 parsnip, peeled and cut in chunks
2 celery sticks, cut into chunks
1 tbsp black peppercorns
2 bay leaves
Enough water to cover the chicken by 5cm.

Optional extras for me:
A small potato
A small turnip

Bring to a gentle simmer & continue cooking,covered, for an hour (or until the chicken is tender).

If you like, you can remove the meat from the bones and put the carcass back into the pot & simmer for few hours further, as I did.

Fully cool (I have a designated spot on a windowsill) and place covered in the fridge, or portion out for the freezer- as I’m going to with some.
